The Iowa Legislature is beginning the difficult task of formulating and approving a budget. Because House and Senate leaders have committed to spending only 90 percent of available state revenue, there will be intense negotiations over how to prioritize those resources. We need to make sure UNI is a top priority.
Please call or email your local legislators today. Find your local Senator or Representative online, or call the Iowa House switchboard at 515-281-3221 or the Iowa Senate switchboard at 515-281-3371.
We are THE regional comprehensive university in the state of Iowa.
- More than 90 percent of our undergraduates are from Iowa
- 74 percent of our alumni are still in Iowa a decade later
UNI's historic focus on educating Iowans means a tuition freeze at the public universities has a disproportionate impact on our campus.
- In-state tuition makes up a greater percentage of UNI's budget compared to our sister institutions
- We also rely more heavily on state funding
That's why the Board of Regents requested additional support for UNI this year and why it's so critical the legislature approves the $4M special appropriation in the governor's budget.
UNI prides itself on offering personalized education with small class sizes taught by professors, not teaching assistants. That's what we're diminishing when we don't adequately fund UNI.
