From the UNI-Dome to the golden dome: Celebrating UNI at the Statehouse

Monday, Feb. 24, UNI students, faculty and staff will travel to the Iowa Capitol to host UNI Day in the rotunda of the Statehouse from 1 to 3 p.m. This is a great opportunity to learn about the wonderful academic programs UNI has to offer, our cutting edge research and amazing student organizations. Meet President Bill Ruud, take pictures with our mascot TC and hear a performance by a jazz trio representing UNI's School of Music.

This is also the perfect time for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and advocate on our behalf. As you know, the Iowa Board of Regents has proposed a second tuition freeze for resident undergraduate students at the state's three public universities. This is great news for UNI students, more than 90 percent of which are from Iowa. But the tuition freeze is predicated on a four percent budget increase from the Iowa Legislature and additional funding for UNI, which is more heavily reliant on state aid due to our focus on undergraduate education for Iowans.

Please join us for UNI Day at the Capitol followed by an alumni reception that evening at the State Historical Building. If you can't attend, please contact your local senator or representative and remind them about the unique and valuable role UNI plays in Iowa.
