'Live Like a Student' prepares students for financial success
Breaking away from national trends, UNI has seen its average undergraduate debt upon graduation decrease by 10 percent over the past three years. As a result, UNI graduates have the lowest student debt of any four-year public institution in Iowa.
UNI proudly remains committed to preparing students for such success in a variety of ways, which includes free programming like Live Like a Student run by Tim Bakula, associate director of financial aid.
Live Like a Student is UNI's three-week financial literary program that serves UNI's nearly 12,000 students, though primarily focused on freshman and sophomores.
The program allows us to talk about and educate individuals that might be living on their own or outside of home for the very first timeĀ said Kristofer Czerwiec, a graduate assistant in UNI's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
The course teaches students how to budget effectively and manage financial goals. The programming includes non-credit classes, small group workshops and financial counseling, all of which work to break down the complexities of financial aid, student loans, credit reports and credit cards.
UNI programming like Live Like a Student is a testament to its commitment to equipping Panthers with the skills necessary to be successful both before and after they graduate.
