Every Day is Earth Day at UNI
Many Iowans consider their environmental footprint on Earth Day, which is today. At the University of Northern Iowa, the environment is front and center every day.
In addition to all of the activities UNI has hosted and will host this week to celebrate environmental efforts, students, faculty and staff have been hard at work year-round to educate the campus community and state of Iowa on just how impactful UNI can be.
UNI now offers a Certificate in Sustainability. This certification provides students with interdisciplinary course offerings encompassing the major content areas of sustainability science, which allows the student to tailor their program to unique interests and needs.
NISG Bike Rental ProgramThis spring, UNI's Northern Iowa Student Government launched a bike rental program for students. This program provides students with a sustainable, cost effective way to get around on campus.
The university recently found out it is one of the 353 most environmentally responsible colleges, according to The Princeton Review. UNI was ranked No. 41 among the 353 schools included, receiving a "green" rating of 98 out of 99.
"Much of UNI's excellence in sustainability can be attributed to the numerous student-driven initiatives that have resulted in institutional changes," said Eric O'Brien, UNI's sustainability coordinator. "From their excitement to improve campus to their generous interest in getting involved, students are powerful forces in UNI's sustainability efforts."
