Offering education at a distance through UNI

The University of Northern Iowa's Continuing and Distance Education receives more than 14,000 enrollments annually through video conferencing technologies, online courses and off-campus coursework.

These offerings are great examples of UNI's commitment to expand access to high-quality educational opportunities. They are also a unique and convenient way for students of all backgrounds to advance personally and professionally.

Distance education delivery methods can include:

Online via eLearning - this learning management system requires Internet access and a Web browser.

Interactive Video Conferencing - students use Adobe Connect, a desktop video conferencing system that allows for real-time interaction.

In-Person - some courses and programs require hands-on experience that can be offered on campus, at workshops across the state or courses in local communities.

Guided Independent Study - students work independently online and progress at their own pace.

Blended - includes multiple delivery methods.

Two programs scheduled to begin through Continuing and Distance Education are the Technology Management Bachelor of Arts degree program and the Instructional Technology Master of Arts degree program.

Technology Management Bachelor of Arts
Applications are currently being accepted for a new cohort beginning this fall. This program is designed for graduates of career and technical programs from community colleges and focuses on industry while incorporating an applied approach to critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills. Courses are offered entirely online using eLearning.

Instructional Technology Master of Arts
Applications are being accepted to begin the program this summer. This program prepares professionals to be leaders in instructional technology in the classroom, district and beyond. Students will focus on integrating technology into the classroom. This graduate degree will be earned online and most courses meet one night per week via interactive video conferencing
