TRANSITIONING FROM MILITARY LIFE TO COLLEGE LIFE TO THE WORKFORCE MADE EASIER AT UNI

Hundreds of military members, their families and veterans feel right at home at UNI. We work hard to meet the unique needs of veterans transitioning from military life to college life to the workforce. UNI truly makes the transition to campus life as smooth as possible.

The university recently finished their annual Veterans Week recognizing the transition between military duty and college. On Monday, Nov. 7, the UNI community and UNI military and veteran students started the weeklong event by gathering together to raise awareness and support for military and veteran students' and their families, the campus and the Cedar Valley community.

Veterans Week programming provided a venue to share stories and opportunities with each other about first-hand military and student transitions. The weeklong event truly highlights how important each veteran's story is on UNI's campus and in the community.

“I think it is important that people know UNI is very supportive of its student veterans, and the university is an institution where they are welcomed and encouraged to succeed,” said Norman Ferguson, advisor for the Veterans Association and Events Coordinator. Ferguson oversees Veterans Week and helps provide opportunities to educate the campus and community on student veterans while bringing awareness to the Veterans Association and the Military Veteran Student Services office.

During Veterans Week, UNI also hosted its third successful Green Zone Training (GZT) event of the semester. “Our goal is to train members of the UNI community to know more about the issues and concerns faced by military affiliated students and to identify individuals who are available to support these students,” noted Ferguson.

The university takes great pride and extends a generous thank you to the student veterans who serve and play a role in the success to UNI.
