Showcasing UNI at the Capitol

Iowa's State Capitol Building will once again be resplendent in purple and gold when the University of Northern Iowa travels to Des Moines for UNI Day at the Capitol from noon to 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 13.

The fifth annual event is a showcase of UNI's people and programs and the impact UNI has on the state of Iowa. Departments, programs and student groups from across campus will present a variety of displays and discuss their work, such as:

• UNI's outstanding teacher education program leads the state in preparing Iowa's teachers. More than 9,200 K through 12 educators in Iowa are UNI grads, with UNI alumni educators found in all 99 of the state's counties.

• The Live Like a Student financial literacy program offered by UNI's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships works to set students on the path to a successful financial future by educating students on how their financial decisions today have long-term outcomes.
• UNI's Rod Library has transformed its main floor into a Learning Commons, a vibrant, comfortable social space equipped with 21st century tools, technology and services that support students' academic success. 
• First-Year Programs and the Transfer Council at UNI work to help new students get their footing and succeed in college. They offer programs such as Peer Advisors in Residence to help partner new students with those who have experience to offer guidance.
• The Business and Community Services programs at UNI provided services to 3,120 business, community and local government clients located in all of Iowa's 99 counties last year.

Legislators, staff and visitors to the Capitol are welcome to stop by and see what UNI has to offer. Alumni are also encouraged to attend to reconnect with their university and speak with elected officials about the value of UNI.
