Committed to Iowa

As a regional comprehensive institution, UNI's focus is Iowa: the people, communities and economy. Nearly all students attending UNI are from Iowa and stay in Iowa after graduation. UNI works with Iowa companies to prepare a workforce to meet their needs now and in the future. By developing partnerships and opportunities with Iowa companies, schools and communities, 90 percent of UNI students gain experience in their profession prior to graduation.

For the last 30 years, UNI has been assisting businesses across the state by providing them with knowledgeable assistance in starting, maintaining and growing their businesses. The 2017 Small Business profile from the U.S. Small Business Administration reports that Iowa small businesses employ 48.7 percent of the private workforce. The largest share of that employment is in businesses with fewer than 100 employees. Recognizing the importance of these businesses to the state, Business and Community Services (BCS) provides a wide array of services and delivers them to clients in all 99 Iowa counties.

UNI students, faculty, staff and alumni will be sharing their stories on UNI's commitment to the state with legislators at UNI Day at the Capitol on Monday, Feb. 19. If you cannot join in person, we ask that you share your positive story about UNI with legislators via email or social media using the hashtag #UNIDay2018 or #Ed4Iowans.
