Iowa Waste Reduction Center helps small businesses save energy costs

Iowa Waste Reduction Center helps small businesses save energy costs

The cheapest energy is the energy we do not have to create. This is why energy efficiency is so important in Iowa’s energy management plans. Energy efficiency reduces the consumption of energy, which results in a decrease of energy-generated environmental impacts and significantly reduces a business’s energy costs.

The Iowa Energy Efficiency Assistance Program for Rural Small Businesses at UNI’s Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) was created to provide free comprehensive, on-site technical assistance and educational materials specifically tailored to the needs of rural Iowa small businesses. The overall goal of the program is to reduce energy consumption from Iowa small businesses and save them money.

Through this program, the IWRC will evaluate a small business's energy consumption and costs, identify resources to determine appropriate techniques the business can implement to reduce energy consumption and improve the business's bottom line. Last year, the IWRC provided detailed one-on-one environmental technical assistance and on-site reviews to 111 Iowa small businesses. Since inception, detailed assistance or on-site review has been provided to a total of 6,340 Iowa small businesses.
