At UNI... We Stand By You

With the start of the new semester on campus, the physical safety and emotional well-being of every single member of the UNI community is a priority. Many students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are still grappling with the tragedies from this past summer.

Our university community is not immune to the ineradicable effects of national and international events. Our campus recognizes the need for open dialogue on the core of these issues. We want to let our Panther family know that we are here for you during these uncertain times.

#WeStandByYou, a project inspired by junior Jamal White, is UNI's way of saying that when you need to talk, to process information, to have someone listen, to have someone by your side, the members of this campus will be there for you. Please watch our video as we embrace diversity and elevate mutual respect and inclusion as key values of our campus community.

UNI is also planning a number of initiatives throughout the academic year. There will be a series of Listening Tables and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences meetings covering topics such as race in the classroom, race and the political system, and diversity course requirements. There also will be initiatives designed to bring together the campus and the Cedar Valley to combat distrust between marginalized populations and specific power structures.

If you have any ideas or thoughts about diversity and inclusion, please be in touch with UNI's Chief Diversity Officer Gwenne Berry at 319-273-2820. She's always willing to listen, discuss and engage.
