UNI teaching grads sought worldwide

The University of Northern Iowa has been preparing teachers for more than 136 years, earning UNI recognition as an international leader in the field.  UNI has more than 16,000 alumni educators teaching worldwide and hosts the oldest international education recruiting event in the world.

This year more than 132 schools and 750 teachers will participate in the annual UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair Feb. 1 through 3 at the Five Sullivan Convention Center in Waterloo.  The schools that come to the event are typically associated with U.S. Embassies and the U.S. Department of State. This year's fair is full; no new registrations are being taken.

"There is no question that the fair began as a result of the outstanding reputation of UNI's education graduates," said Tracey Godon, UNI’s senior assistant director of Career Services. "Over the past 35 years, the trademark of the overseas fair has continued to be that it is the place to find quality teachers with superior training and a strong work ethic."

Since 1976, more than 26,000 educators (including many UNI graduates) have utilized services offered by UNI's Overseas Placement Services for Educators.   The UNI Overseas Recruiting Fair has also increased international student teaching placements, international admissions to UNI, and led to the development of new online master's programs for international educators.
