UNI Students are Career Ready Day One
As a regional comprehensive institution, UNI’s mission and focus is to provide a high quality educational experience that prepares students to be successful in whatever career they choose. This role is critical for the state of Iowa as nearly 90% of UNI students are from Iowa and 92% of Iowa students stay in Iowa after graduating.
UNI provides students an opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world, work-related experience to help ensure students are prepared. Seventy percent of UNI students gain these experiences through internships, field experiences and student teaching. In addition, 74% of students are involved in one or more of UNI’s over 260 student organizations and community service opportunities.
“As a public accounting firm, we are constantly in need of entry-level accountants and information technology professionals that are prepared for the rigors of our profession. UNI and the individual professors do an excellent job educating on the technical (tangible) aspects of a student's chosen profession while also instilling an understanding of the important intangible aspects of that profession. UNI students come to us prepared for the real world. It is often shocking how much they understand about our industry compared to students from other universities. UNI graduates are hard working, receptive to the continuous learning required in public accounting and respectful in their approach to interactions with fellow employees and our clients. We can't hire enough UNI students!”- Hilary McCauley | RSM “John Deere purposely selects UNI as a school to recruit from. UNI students are well prepared to enter the business world with the skills needed to be successful and are ready to make an immediate impact to our business. As an employer, there is no question that UNI faculty spend time with the students to train them to be professional, great communicators and lifelong learners.”
- Amanda Smith | John Deere
These experiences provide students an opportunity to learn and hone their skills outside the classroom. So UNI students are prepared to be successful on day one. In fact, 95% of UNI graduates were employed or continued their education within six months of graduation.
