UNI student athletes earn academic honors

University of Northern Iowa student athletes have twice been honored recently for their prowess in the classroom rather than on the court or field. In June, the NCAA recognized five UNI teams for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores - the most for a single school in the Missouri Valley Conference. These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports:

Men's basketball

Men's golf

Women's golf

Women's cross country

Women's volleyball teams

In addition, the UNI women's basketball team was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 2013 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The Panthers netted the seventh best GPA in NCAA Division I, earning a 3.54 while making their run into the post season.

"The university is proud of the commitment to academic success shown by our student athletes, coaches and staff on a daily basis," said Troy Dannen, UNI athletics director. "Panther Athletics will continue to emphasize academic, athletic and social performance as the foundation for excellence among our 400 student athletes."
