UNI kicks off 2024-2025 academic year
Another school year is underway at the University of Northern Iowa, and there is much to celebrate! New and returning students, faculty and staff, alumni and friends are all energized for the year ahead.
UNI is expecting 2024-2025 to mark the second consecutive year of enrollment growth. Approximately 1,400 new UNI students attended the official Panther Welcome kickoff event held in the McLeod Center last week. The official fall census will be certified and announced in mid-September.
One of the most exciting academic developments of the year is the launch of several new programs. UNI’s first cohort of dedicated Bachelor of Science in Nursing students will enjoy an integrated learning environment in the newly renovated Innovative Teaching and Technology Center. With 26 students starting this fall, UNI plans to add approximately 50 more students in spring.
This semester also brings the launch of three new engineering degrees this semester, with students in the state-of-the-art Applied Engineering Building with access to cutting-edge lab spaces, classrooms and collaborative environments.
The Panthers have kicked off fall sporting events. Soccer is playing against St. Ambrose University tonight on the UNI Soccer Field. Panther Football kicks off at home for the first time in 14 years, hosting Valparaiso in the UNI-Dome this Saturday. After a home exhibition match this past weekend, UNI Volleyball hosts its first official home game in the McLeod Center on Sept 19. For more information on fall sports, visit unipanthers.com.
Patrons of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center will notice the work in progress to feature brand-new amenities, including a marquee lounge thanks to an ongoing renovation and expansion project. This fall’s entertainment includes Paula Poundstone, “The Music Man,” Indigo Girls and “The Nutcracker.” Tickets can be purchased on Gallagher Bluedorn’s website.
As of Aug. 15, $278 million has been raised for the Our Tomorrow campaign, which is 92% of the $300 million goal. Nearly two-thirds of these funds support scholarships and student success as well as academic programs and faculty. The remaining funds contribute to engaged learning and UNI’s iconic spaces on campus. The campaign’s initial goal was set at $250 million but was raised due to the overwhelming support of the Panther community.
Fall 2024 brings the University of Northern Iowa its 149th class, which means we are on the horizon of honoring and celebrating 150 years of our institution. Planning for UNI’s sesquicentennial celebration is underway. The celebration will officially kick off next fall and run through Homecoming 2026.
