Ribbon cutting will celebrate UNI Applied Engineering Building

The University of Northern Iowa will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly renovated Applied Engineering Building on March 28 at 11 a.m. with Gov. Kim Reynolds and President Mark Nook as speakers. The Applied Engineering Building is funded primarily by a $40 million investment from the State of Iowa along with approximately $3 million of donor support. Efforts are ongoing to meet the donor goal of more than $4 million.

The Applied Engineering Building has expanded by 40,000 square feet, adding state-of-the-art laboratories and collaborative learning spaces. An additional 60,000 square feet of existing space has been completely renovated, incorporating cutting-edge technology and one of the most modern foundry laboratories in the world. Designed as a hands-on learning tool, the facility features open-concept ceilings that expose pipes and electrical chases, offering students a real-world look at building systems. From their first year, UNI students will gain practical experience in this innovative environment.

The building houses an umbrella of programs that educate students for some of the highest-need sectors in Iowa. UNI works with industry partners to ensure programs are aligned with their hiring needs and will be in high demand after graduation.

Engineering students

UNI offers the most affordable four-year engineering-related degrees in Iowa to meet the growing workforce need for engineers. The renovation project is a major factor in UNI’s goals for enrollment growth.
