Regents propose second tuition freeze

The Iowa Board of Regents last week proposed a second tuition freeze for resident undergraduate students at the state's three public universities. This is great news for Iowa families and in particular UNI students, 75 percent of which demonstrate financial need. The tuition freeze is predicated on receiving additional funding from the Iowa General Assembly including a four percent increase in general state aid and continuing this year's $10 million dollar appropriation for UNI originally approved as one-time funding.

This new funding would allow UNI to:

  • Implement the first 2-year tuition freeze since 1975
  • Maintain a low student to faculty ratio
  • Continue to improve student retention and graduation rates
  • Reduce student debt

In other great news: Just last week, U.S. News & World Report again ranked UNI as the second "Best Regional Public University (Midwest)" in their 2014 "America's Best Colleges" guidebook. The magazine's ranking criteria include peer assessment, academic reputation, retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, graduation-rate performance and alumni giving rate.

Upcoming Event:

UNI’s annual Military and Veteran State Conference from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, at Maucker Union.  "Uncamouflaging Campus Diversity: Creating Transparency through Cultural Competence," will feature an employment fair from 1 to 4 p.m. and breakout sessions on deployment challenges, PTSD, suicide awareness and disability benefits.
