'Nothing Compares' to Panther Pride at the Iowa State Fair
Where can you find more than 10,000 Panther tattoos, the ever-popular football posters, TC fans and nearly 200 alumni volunteers? The University of Northern Iowa exhibit at the Iowa State Fair! The university has been hosting an exhibit in the Varied Industries Building during the 10-day fair since the early 1990s, all with the help of alumni and employee volunteers.
In addition to the nearly 200 alumni volunteers, more than 50 campus employees are also on hand to staff the 12 hours each day the exhibit is open--and apply those 10,000 tattoos.
“Alumni return each year and really enjoy the opportunity to show their Panther Pride to thousands of alumni and fair visitors,” said Leslie Prideaux, president of the UNI Alumni Association.
Highlights of this year's booth:
- Multimedia interactive stations, including three 55-inch touch screen monitors, allow visitors, alumni and prospective students to explore different majors and opportunities offered at UNI. Alumni will also be able to use the stations to sign the alumni guest book.
- UNI President Mark Nook will visit with guests, alumni, and prospective students and their families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10.
- Leslie Prideaux will show a steer at the Governor's Charity Steer Show at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11.
- UNI Men's Basketball Coach Ben Jacobson will visit with guests, alumni, and prospective students and their families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17.
