Making her move to UNI
Olivia Ferguson, a junior from Solon, Iowa, has a lot of school spirit. As a member of Student Admissions Ambassadors (SAA), she can often be seen walking around campus in purple and khaki, giving tours to prospective students. She also talks to potential UNI students through her work as a Student Telecounseling Admissions Representative (STAR). With all this Panther pride, you'd never know that she attended another school before coming to UNI.
"The college I came from had a completely different atmosphere," says Ferguson. "It wasn't until I came to UNI that I felt at home. I have made lifelong friends and built relationships here that will pass the test of time."
Ferguson says that the admissions office helped her make a smooth transition from her community college to UNI. She also visited the Academic Learning Center on campus to learn more about study techniques and time management skills.
Ferguson, a communication sciences and disorders major, has had engaging and valuable academic experiences during her time at UNI. She says that her professors always strike a good balance between challenge and support in class.
"I plan to become a speech-language pathologist working within a clinical setting," says Ferguson. "We are fortunate to have our own clinic at UNI, and as an undergraduate I have already been given clients to shadow and work with, giving me countless opportunities to learn hands-on and grow as an SLP."
Ferguson believes that anyone considering UNI should visit campus and experience first-hand the scenery, hospitality and school spirit. She says that for her, coming to UNI was one of the best decisions she's ever made.
