Iowans from across the state take to the field

Not all who step onto the turf in the UNI-Dome tomorrow during the State Football Finals will step on it for the first time. In addition to the athletes, many members of the schools' marching bands have recently crossed the new purple and gold turf.

On Nov. 4, over 800 Iowa high school students from over 69 school districts across the state joined the 315 members of the Panther Marching Band to create an unforgettable performance during UNI Band Day 2017.

UNI Band Day aims to bring Iowa high school students together for music fellowship with other band students throughout the state as well as the opportunity to perform as part of a massive band. The unique event dates back almost 30 years and has been an annual event for the last five years. High school students also have the opportunity to see and perform with alumni from their school.

At over 300 members, the Panther Marching Band is the largest student organization on campus. The band consists of students from 79 different majors, including nearly every discipline and major available at UNI. The band is open to both music majors and non-majors, with approximately 71 percent of its members majoring in something other than music.
