Earth day is every day at UNI
Many Iowans will consider their environmental footprint on Monday, April 22, Earth Day, but at UNI’s Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center (RRTTC) the environment is front and center every day.
The RRTTC is a research, education and outreach center serving Regent university researchers and students, Iowa citizens, business and industry. Their environmental education programs reach thousands across the state.
"Get Your Green On" served 2,500 students and their teachers by helping to develop a recycling program at all kindergarten through sixth-grade elementary schools in Cedar Falls.
“The Rider Recycling pilot program” helped to bring recycling to more than 4,000 residence rooms on the UNI campus.
"Green: What Does it Mean? Exploring our Sustainable Community" provided a full day of sustainability education for more than 2,000 ninth-grade students from area high schools.
The RRTTC also coordinates UNI’s Earth Week celebration. The week’s activities include an Earth Day Fair featuring booths from more than two dozen community and campus participants, free bike tune-ups, a book swap, outdoor yoga, a campus clean up and a trail bike ride. Students will also be encouraged to walk or ride their bike to campus, cut their shower time in half and go cordless for a day.
